As per Graph 1, the outcome of the study
showed that 164 subjects reported different
types of complications. Of the total 164 subjects,
lattice degeneration was diagnosed in 20.73%,
glaucoma in 6.09%, PPA in 16.46%, cataract in
7.31%, posterior staphyloma in 18.90%, PVD in
1.21%, vitreous degeneration in 3.65%, retinal
detachment in 3.65%, amblyopia in 8.53%,
macular degeneration in 5.48%, vitreous opacity
in 2.43%, macular hole in 4.26%, and optic
atrophy was reported in 1.21% of subjects.
In summary, this study revealed that subjects
with a high degree of myopia are at a higher
risk for visual impairments. Early treatment and
diagnosis can prevent vision loss and further
complications. Myopia control in the early stages
is necessary for young patients to prevent sight-
threatening problems. Slowing the progression
of myopia could potentially benefit millions of
young patients, reducing the risk of myopia-
associated complications later in life.
