THE NECESSITY OF
MYOPIA CONTROL
COMPLICATIONS IN HIGH
MYOPIC PATIENTS
yopia, also known as nearsightedness,
is a refractive error caused by excessive
Maxial elongation. The World Health
Organisation (WHO) defines high myopia as
-5D or more. The global prevalence of myopia is
increasing, and by 2050, it's estimated that high

prevalent in younger adults and can lead to
complications such as macular degeneration,
retinal detachment, and early cataracts.
This cross-sectional observational study
aimed to determine the risk of complications
in subjects with high degrees of myopia, with
260 eyes of participants aged between 5 and 50
years enrolled. The participants included 42%
males and 58% females. All subjects underwent
a primary eye examination; the best corrected
refractive error was considered with cycloplegic
refraction at a young age. The anterior
segment examination and posterior segment
examination were done after dilatation.
HIRAL J. RATHOD Other mandatory examinations like OCT,
PURSUING M.OPTOM, NAGAR SCHOOL
OF OPTOMETRY, AHMEDABAD Fundus Photo, FAA, and USG were performed
as per the requirement. A final diagnosis
with standard guidelines was considered
a complication. 5D to 30D refractive error
subjects were included as described in Table 1.
