COVER
TEST:
A CHALLENGE
FOR EVERY EYE
PRACTITIONER
cover test is an objective determination of the
presence and amount of ocular deviation. It provides
A a precise, objective measure of eye alignment and is
indispensable when assessing a patient with a suspected
squint. This is usually a preliminary examination of a case
of tropia or manifest squint, phoria or latent squint. There
are many procedures available to perform a cover test with
or without the help of any orthoptic instruments. However,
it should preferably be performed by a well-trained
orthoptist who has a specialisation in orthoptics.
