Dr Casini presented the Maestro Ottico
diplomas of honour (conferred on those
with at least 30 years of experience with a
diploma obtained before December 1991),
the AIO badge (reserved for previous Masters
Opticians) to 57 opticians from 15 Italian
regions, and 20 honours to AIO Historical
Shops, three of which are over 100 years old.
This last segment is for opticians’ shops
that have been actively engaged in the
profession for over half a century. The Historic
Shop category in the Italian optical sector is
of great significance as it exemplifies a long
history of dedication, passion and service to
the country that in many cases began in the
19 or early 20 century. Since the founding of

these shops and through these many years,
they have faced wars, natural events including
calamities, and the natural progression of
epochal changes in customs and techniques.

WINNERS

Spex!, a technical magazine,
presented the Eyewear
Designer Award to two
young designers who have
distinguished themselves in
creativity and resourcefulness.
Awards also went to opticians
who have been in the profession
for 40, 50 and 60 years.
The Graziella Pagni Eyewear
Awards is the culmination of an
international contest dedicated
to independent eyewear. It aim is to give visibility
and prestige to the most innovative and creative
companies in the sector. (This was the tenth
edition of the award, instituted in memory of
Dr Casini’s wife.)
The awards in the Design Category went
to Jean-Francois Rey (first) for the J.F. Rey
collection, Piero Massaro (second) for their Pixel
collection, and Vava Eyewear (third) for their
Autumn-Winter 21/22 collection. The first, second
and third winners in the Fashion Category are
Prophilo (the Oscar Mamooi collection), Open
Channel (the Kreuzbergkinder collection), and
Ingrovision (the ViaGuinigi Acrylic collection).
The Innovation Category awardees are Mar.
Vas (the Bust Out collection), Dolpi (the Cinema
Cento collection), and Xylomia (the Wood and
Carbon Fibre collection). The Grand Jury Prize
was bestowed on Acoesis for their Glassense
collection. The Grand Prix of Elegance went to
Good's for their Dymenzion-x collection.
